To get the most from online therapy, it is important to think about the environment in which your session will take place.
- Privacy: Choose a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable speaking openly and are unlikely to be overheard or interrupted.
- Technology: Use a reliable internet connection and a suitable device with a working camera, microphone and enough battery power.
- Confidentiality: If you share your home with others, consider using headphones and letting them know that you need uninterrupted private time.
- Comfort: Arrange a comfortable place to sit and keep anything you may need nearby, such as water or tissues.
- Distractions: Silence notifications and close unrelated applications before the session begins.
- Location: Join your session from a safe and stationary place. Online therapy should not take place while you are driving.
- Technical difficulties: Occasionally, internet or connection problems may interrupt a session. We will agree in advance on what to do if this happens.
- Suitability: Online therapy can be effective for many people, but it may not suit every person or situation. We can discuss whether it is appropriate for your needs during our initial consultation.
- Emergency support: Online therapy is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or require urgent assistance, contact the emergency services or an appropriate crisis-support service.
